Unfortunately, I went and took a look-see at , and after I took a gander and created a profile, I immediately canceled my BirchBox subscription.
Ipsy just seems to cater to exactly what I was hoping to get from BirchBox. I wanted a subscription that would turn me on to new make-up and beauty things (i.e. nail polish, make-up, etc). BirchBox just kept sending me crap I didn't want and that did NOT match my beauty profile at ALL. For the same amount of money, I could be getting what actually fits me.
I am getting my May Ipsy Glam Bag (You get a cool bag with your things, so I am excited about new storage opportunities! haha!) in the mail in a few days, so I will write what I think of my first round with them. Hopefully my expectations are met, we shall see.
Now, on to my BirchBox.
Funnily enough, this month they actually sent me a few things that I am happy with that fit my beauty profile.
1. Joie Folle de joie eau de parfum/ full size: $98
What is SO funny about this sample is I JUST BARELY got one from Sephora. (It came with my purchase of the Naked 2 Palette.) I already knew I would love it because I love the one Sephora sent, what's better is that Daniel loves it too. It has a light flower scent that somehow grabs me.
Now I have TWO of them. Should last me a while because they are very strong and you only need a light spritzing.
2. Cargo Water Resistant Blush/ full size: $26
I really like this color. It's a little bit darker than Benefit's Coralista, so you only need a smidgen. It has a good shimmer to it that I really like so it highlights the apples of my cheeks really well.
3. Kerastase Bain Chroma Captive/ full size: $29
I was familiar with this product because I used to use it. It's good for color treated hair which mine definitely is. However, it's made my L'Oreal, so it's not the highest end Shampoo and it's best if you have the whole system. And if I am going to spend $30+ on shampoo and conditioner I would rather buy myself some Kenra.
4. COOLA Classic Face SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face/ Full Size: $32
I LOVE the smell of Cucumber Melon--LOVE it--so that's a positive for this moisturizer. It goes on really light and feels refreshing on my face. I like that the moisturizer has sunscreen in it. I feel like not enough women know they should use SPF on their faces daily. But, I digress... My main problem with this is that it takes a lot to cover your face, which is good and bad; at least you know it's soaking into your skin. But, I would rather stay with my Almay moisturizer.
5. Acroball Pilot Pen in Pink/$5
They sent us some pens? I don't even know. But the card that came with it gave it HIGH praise. I obviously expected this pen to cook me dinner and sing me a song. Alas, it didn't. I don't see the big deal. It's just a normal pen, nothing special. However, I do like that they sent me a pink pen. Lord knows I always need one of those.
All together I am pleased with this box. I can use every thing in it and it all generally interests me. In a way I am sad to leave BirchBox because this third box WAS an overall good one. It was definitely better than Box 1 & 2. My experience with BirchBox wasn't an overall bad one. I wanted to be introduced to new things and I definitely was. (Just not things that fit my beauty profile.) They definitely give you your $10 worth, and in my brief experience, more than $10 worth.
If I had different interests in what I was looking to sample I would probably stay with it; Ipsy just seems to serve my wants better.
With that, I say: Toodley Doodles BirchBox. Thanks for the memories (and the nice smelling perfume).
