The 4th

We started the day at a parade down town. It was pretty interesting.
BUT THEY DIDN'T THROW CANDY.

You tell me, what kind of parade doesn't throw candy? That has to be against some kind of rule.

Then we went to this AMAZING BBQ place called Henry's BBQ. SO. FREAKING. GOOD.

I ate all of my portion and half of Daniels. I am not kidding when I say I didn't eat until dinner the next night.

Little girl loves her Dad :)

Last year & this year. Crazy how time flies.

Our Neighbors have pet guinea pigs and Grace FREAKED over it. She loves animals. Luckily the guinea pig was a nice one or Grace would have lost a finger for sure.

We went to the park with our neighbors until it was time to go to the fireworks. (Which we had to drive almost an HOUR away to see because fireworks are illegal in Monterey.)

The fireworks scared her at first, but then once we covered her ears she was able to enjoy them. But man, she didn't let go of that monkey the whole time.

We had a great fourth. It was the first one being away from family, which is hard for me because the 4th is always a big deal in my family.

My little town throws a big parade where they throw candy like the Americans they are, and every kiddo in the town is in it with their bikes all dressed up. Then there is a HUGE fair/carnival in the center of town. After wasting our money on things we won't use and funnel cakes, we head home to regather and gossip. Then we head to my Aunt Sherese's for a big family BBQ and to watch fireworks. (You can see them from her house.)

The 4th has always been one of my very favorite holidays and I love spending it with my family.
However, last year, we spent it with Daniel's family because guess what? Daniel was born on the 3rd of July, so that kinda trumps everything and so I have a feeling that we will always spend the 4th with his family when/if we are in town for it.

But, for just our wee family of three, the 4th was a great day. We even got a two hour nap in there somehow. It was great to establish our own traditions and to spend, what I consider, a major holiday by ourselves was kinda nice. Plus, we had good neighbors who helped fill the lonely gaps :)

Hope you all had a good 4th, too!

  1. I miss spending the 4th with my family too. We would always have a big cookout at the lake and go watch the fireworks in the boat. I haven't done that in probably about 5 years!
